powerful stuff, man. Thanks for sharing. Young Life is a good organization . . . the longer I stay in ministry the more people I meet who have some significant spiritual markers staked at Young Life camps across the country.

However, I did not cry . . . I do cry however every time I see the end of Field of Dreams . . . "Hey, Dad? Wanna have a catch?" Gotta go. Rooms getting dusty . . .

I totally get what you are talking about. It's very often we talk about the kids that were so impacted from their mission trip/camp/worship team at the peak of their second, maybe third year, and we often ask, "wonder what they are up to now?" because whatever is is, it isn't in the church. They vaporize. There is a second fold to this trend and its the frequency that we even see the kids within the 2 years. 60-70% of my weekly attendance is from kids who attend every other week because of broken family situations. The need for connected Adult leaders is paramount to building better relationships with this generation. Thanks for keeping these subjects out front.

I ABSOLUTELY and whole heartedly agree. Ministries need to whatever they need to do in order to hand off opportunities to the next Gen.

If there was ONE thing that I would plead with children's ministry leaders to do, it would be to stop doing whatever you need to so you have margin to equip, train, shepherd youth praise teams and any other leadership roles. The church should be known for giving away opportunities to channel creativity, passion and talent. Great Post -- very talented young man!

I love the fact that this is a 6th grader! For the past year we have been allowing middle school students to lead by playing on the praise team, running sound/lights/computer, and through some other leadership opportunities. They like to have the opportunity and the students like to see their peers on stage! It's a win for the students on the stage (using their gifts/talents/etc.), and a win for the students in the audience (seeing someone their age leading).
