Last weekend I wrote the first post in a series of seven posts on understanding corporate church leadership. I want to be sure that everyone is on the same page with me before we go further.
This series of posts is to help us see the big picture in a way that generates understanding and opportunity. With leadership and conflict with leadership there is usually always a better way to handle things than the way they often pan out. Almost in every situation the leaders intent and motive was second guessed or at best vilify. For the leader there are lesson to learn as well. Often times we think the group we lead thinks like we do and wants what we want. If we have a vision for the way things can be from God we must open the eyes of those who will carry out that vision as best as we can.
The worse place to operate out of as a follower of a great leader is the position of fear. With leaders we tend to think of what we don't want more than what is presented to us by God and so at the first sign of anything the leader does or says that even comes close to validating our fears we fire off against the leader never giving them a second chance or opportunity to explain themselves or dismiss our unmerited imagination.
You don't want that kind of knee jerk reaction in your ministry or toward your leader. So behind every move and every decision there is a reason. It could be a good reason, a great reason, or a not so good one. The point is to think first, discuss next, and think even more before you take steps in response to your leader or to those you lead. As a church grows and a leader is stretched a journey begins that must be taken in order for things to move forward.
